Overview

Welcome to the SharkOS Project, an effort to extend ArchLinux. ArchLinux is by far one of the better up and coming distributions with an extended user community. Although the ArchLinux User Repository (AUR) is a great resource of non-supported packages, there is a lot of variation in the package builders and lack of a centralized binary repository. SharkOS.org’s purpose is to become a trusted resource for ArchLinux users to download additional software components and extend the functionality of the core distro. Of course any source PKGBUILD that we create will be placed back into the AUR if not already owned by another contributor. If we feel that our source package is better or offers additional functionality not provided by one already in the AUR, it will be made available here as well. We also encourage any other Arch users to request packages, and we will consider them for addition into our repository.

Chris Tusa has been in the hosting industry since 1995. Starting his career as the founder of New Orleans based service provider, Nolaserve.com, he built a successful business running primarily on FreeBSD servers. In early 2002, Chris shifted his focus to Linux systems by migrating the hosting platform to an OpenMosix HPC cluster running Hsphere. In 2003, SharkLinux 1.05 and 1.06 were released to the public, but then later cancelled due to issues with the Gentoo based build environment. In 2005, Nolaserve was aquired by a larger provider, and Chris accepted a position with Rackspace in San Antonio, TX where he quickly moved to supporting Enteprise Hosting environments. Today’ he is working for Viawest in Denver, Colorado where he has built infrastructure systems around ArchLinux’s core distro. One key project is a growing storage cluster based on GlusterFS. Chris now dedicates his free time to supporting and advocating the ArchLinux distribution.
